Venezuelan Ambassador in London, Samuel Moncada, attended the launch of this book and expressed his gratitude to the author Barry Cannon for his valuable work in his handling of sources and his immersion in the Venezuelan culture for the completion of his book.
Cannon spoke about his experience in Venezuela during the failed coup in April 2002 and also about the media manipulation that Venezuela experience on daily basis.
"It's amazing the constant attack by the media against a legally elected president in the figure of Mr. Chavez. I am amused to see that now Mr. Obama it’s been portrayed as a fascist, funny they called Chavez the same a couple of years ago; he is now experiencing the difficulties Chavez has with the media " said Cannon.
A member of the public asked Cannon about his definition of democracy, and he responded that there is not an exact definition for democracy.
"The perfect democracy does not exist. However, I believe democracy means equality and social justice" to which he added "the governments of Europe and the U.S. believe that if the patterns of democracy in other countries (especially developing countries) are not the same as theirs, then it is not a democracy.”
This event was attended by several university professors and academics in London, as well as the President of the Industrial Fund of Margarita, Mr William Ramon Farina.
