President Chavez announces the creation of a Venezuelan shipping company
Caracas, Nov 11. ABN.- The Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias announced this Wednesday the creation of a Venezuelan shipping company to strengthen the commerce and the regional integration.
“There are no trade ships navigating from the Orinoco to the Amazon, and they are really really close. I just signed a decree to create a shipping company,” the Venezuelan Head of State stated from the Miraflores Presidential Palace, during a ceremony to give the national flag to the Venezuelan athletes that will represent the country in the next Bolivarian Games to be held in Venezuela.
Chavez underscored that said state-run shipping company will be great due to its reach and purpose.
“Venezuela had one 100 years ago, with ships that crossed the seas of Europe and South America,” he pointed out.
According to Chavez, that shipping company was absorbed by the hegemonic policies of United States.
“The imperialism swallowed it all, just as it did with the airline Viasa,” Chavez added.
In the opinion of the Venezuelan Head of State, maritime and air transportation means are key elements to integrate the countries of the region.
During the ceremony with the athletes, Chavez also talked about the conversation held with his Argentinean counterpart Cristina Fernandez about the three-monthly meeting that was scheduled for this Thursday and it was postponed.
“We agreed to hold it in December due to agenda problems. It will be in two or three weeks,” Chavez informed.
