World Heavy Oil Congress to give great business opportunities

Porlamar, State of Nueva Esparta, Nov 02. ABN (Lilian Mosquera, special correspondent).- The Third World Heavy Oil Congress , that will take place between November 3-5, will open spaces so the most important oil companies of the world can establish new relations of improve existing ones, through a series of technical and business conferences about diverse matters, such as the problems affecting the industry or ways to improve their efficiency.

This third meeting is taking place at the Hilton Hotel in Margarita Island, State of Nueva Esparta (northeastern Venezuela). The host company, the Venezuelan state-run oil company Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), will make a presentation about the largest hydrocarbon deposits of the world located at the Orinoco Oil Belt.

The First World Heavy Oil Congress was carried out in Beijing, China, in 2006. The Second Congress took place in Edmonton, Canada in 2008.

The Business Conference Committee, Chaired by Hugues Montmayeur, Vice President Orinoco Belt Assets of TOTAL, will investigate the complete heavy oil value chain in order to define short‐term and long‐term challenges, and supply solutions.

Likewise, the Technical Conference Committee, Chaired by K.C. Yeung, Manager of Oil Sands Technology at Husky Energy Inc., will review 112 selected papers coming from all over the world, including: Venezuela, Canada, China, Brazil, France, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, United Kingdom and the U.S.

Some of the paper topics are: innovative oil sands processing and upgrading technology, reservoir exploitation strategy, produced water treatment, sand control, reservoir characterization, numerical simulation, reservoir monitoring, cementing design, geomechanics, among others.

During the Congress, the delegates will have the opportunity to visit the exhibits of the Alberta Government (Canada), Chevron Latin America Upstream, Japan Oil Gas and Metals National Corporation, and Shangai Grandway Limited (China), among others.

It is important to mention that from right away the Committees are receiving the papers to be evaluated for the Fourth World Heavy Oil Congress that will take place in Edmonton, Canada from March 15-17 in 2011, where some energy institutes are located, such as the Center for Oils Sands Innovation in the University of Alberta and the Schlumberger's Global Reservoir Fluids Center.
