Satellite Simon Bolivar shortens distance between people and public health

Caracas, Nov 01. ABN.- The telemedicine, one of the main social usages of the Satellite Simon Bolivar, helps to shorten distances between the remote and historically excluded communities and the most advanced health systems used in the big cities.

The Minister of People's Power for Science, Technology and Intermediate Industries Jesse Chacon reiterated on Sunday that telemedicine allows, among other things, to guarantee diagnosis in real time in remote localities in order to answer efficiently with their health requirements.

“This is what we call a second diagnosis, which communicates a general physician at a rural zone with a specialist in the capital, who can certify, improve or change immediately, in real time, the diagnosis needed,” Chacon stated.

Also, the Minister of Science pointed out that the function of the Satellite Simon Bolivar in telemedicine is to transmit and receive remote images, carry out teleconferences between general physicians and specialists, and train remotely the human resource.

In this sense, Chacon mentioned that among the projects developed on the telemedicine field, a satellite control center is being created at the University Hospital of Caracas, which will function as a national reference center from where health issues received from any sector of the country where operates a Integral Diagnosis Center (CDI) or any other health institution part of the Mision Barrio Adentro.

In this regard, Ingerboth Herrera, representative of the satellite operations of the National Telecommunications company (Cantv), said that all the health centers of the National Public System that participate in the telemedicine have the necessary technological equipments to receive and transmit high quality and high resolution images.
