United Arab Emirates to join Venezuela and China on the construction of an interoceanic channel in Nicaragua

Managua, Oct 6. ABN.- According to the information supplied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah Zayed Al Nahyan, his country is really interested in participate, in joint with Venezuela and China, on the construction of an interoceanic channel through Nicaragua, as an alternative to the Panama Channel.

In this sense, he said: “we are looking for diverse cooperation options (...) to be part of the initiative to unite two oceans through a channel,” said the Prince Abdullah Zayed Al Nahyan.

During his visit to Nicaragua, he held a meeting with the President Daniel Ortega, who made a long presentation to the Arab delegation about the potential of his country on energy, ports and infrastructure, such as with the interoceanic channel.

A project in which Venezuela and China have already showed their interest.

"I am in here [Nicaragua] with a selected group of people in representation of the Government and the private sector. Many of them belong to very important companies in the UAE (...) I think they will be really interested in revising this proposal about an interoceanic channel,” he said.

Regarding Venezuela's and China's participation on the construction of the channel, the UAE foreign minister said that in the same way these two countries are interested in taking part in the project, “I think that if the studies are positive, we could find many partners.”

When it was decided to build the Panama Channel back in 1914, the first option was Nicaragua.

Now, in the first decade of the 21st century, Nicaragua is an option again thanks to the willingness of UAE, Venezuela and China.
